Event Description

From bonding to bondage, from B&Q to Belarus, along with seven smelly cats, three useless handymen, two slimy estate agents, social workers, a bonker lady. The story of a very unlikely friendship.

Marina Lewycka was born of Ukrainian parents in a refugee camp in Kiel, Germany, at the end of the war, and grew up in England. She teaches at Sheffield Hallam University. She is married, with a grown-up daughter, and lives in Sheffield.

Her first novel, A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian, was translated into 28 languages and was also long listed for The Man Booker Prize 2005, short listed for The Orange Prize for Fiction 2005 and winner of the Bollinger Everyman prize for Comic Fiction 2005 and the Saga Award for Wit 2005. Her second novel Two Caravans was published in 2007.

We Are All Made Of Glue is a quirky yet heart warming story about friendship between two very different women, Georgie Sinclair and her neighbour, the eccentric Mrs Shapiro. A mystery that takes the reader from Highbury, UK to wartime Europe and the Middle East. Read an extract.

Pre-paid bookings essential. Adults $8.80, pensioners and students $6.60 (passes must be shown). Enquiries phone 9978 4091.
