I am always looking out for new and interesting authors, especially Australian and so was pleased to discover ‘Dissection’ by Melbourne author and GP Jacinta Halloran. The book delves into the life of Dr Anna McBride who is being sued by the mother of a cancer patient for delayed diagnosis. Anna is deeply ashamed of the mistake and begins to question every aspect of both her professional and personal life. This is a beautifully written account of a life in crisis and although a little bit depressing at times reminds us of the huge responsibility a doctor has in accurately diagnosing illness. Even the smallest mistake can have dire consequences.
