i have just finished this book, the first i have read from this (female, French) writer. Apparently the book was put up for an award.

It is a crime novel with the chief investigator Commissarie Adamsberg of Paris.Rather than an 'inspector plod' novel, the main character considers crime in his mind and in an instinctive and reflective manner rather than using pure logic like his second in command. His personal involvement in two of the crimes provides a powerful emotional element to the book.

The conclusion to the book is somewhat secondary to the build up of tension during the first two thirds.

I don't like detective novels very much but i do read the ocassional one set in foreign cities such as Donna Leon and Brabar Nadel. I might give this one a go.
