I thoroughly enjoyed this book about Major Pettigrew (retired)- always a stickler for convention and doing the right thing and his friendship with Mrs Ali the Pakistani shopkeeper in his village. In the end this is a love story told with warmth, humour and sensitivity about two people who overcome cultural barriers and scheming relatives to live happily ever after.

I, too, enjoyed this book very much.  What a refreshing change to read such a delightfully sweet and innocent story.

Written with warmth and a dry sense of humour, the author has created an old-fashioned love-story, with characters

that really stay with you.
