Caroline Overington's latest offering is true to form and just as compelling as her previous novel I came to say goodbye. Like many couples Garry and Softie (Softest Sound) are far from compatible and yet both decide to pursue marriage and children (unfortunately with each other). When Matilda is born it would seem that she is the only thing left that they have in common, so when the marriage ends the battle for custody begins. Matilda's story is told by retired newspaper man Barry who is no stranger to custody disputes himself, highlighting just how common the scenario is in this country. Caroline Overington has a really simple writing style but an extremely effective one, and although the writing may be staight forward the issues she explores are far fom it. This is an excellent choice for book clubs.

This book is excellent!  Once you start you can't put it down.  The research is fantastic and gives you an idea of just how bad our family law courts can be, the children always suffer.
