Peter, at 21 did not like pastry cooking in Manly so headed for Brewarrina, spending the next five years working in western NSW and Queensland as a shearer's rouseabout, building fences and rodeo yards, and droving cattle and sheep. Peter's description of the characters he meets combined with his word drawings of birds, animals and the countryside, reminds one of Banjo Patterson's lines from "Clancy of the Overflow", 'For the drover's life has pleasures that the townsfolk never know'.
A jolly good read for all who enjoy open spaces.
