Sea of Poppies - Amitav Ghosh

This book was great - a real character driven book set in the time of the Opium Wars. It starts in India where we are introduced to the characters, indentured Indian migrants, a bankrupt Raja, a half caste Chinese opium addict, a runaway French orphan girl raised in India and a mulatto freedman from Baltimore and ends with them headed for Mauritius on an old slave ship The Ibis in a real cliff hanger. Hopefully Amitav Ghosh is busy with the sequel right now!

Have you read The Hungry Tide by Amitav Ghosh ? I thought it was fantastic.
