Shanti bloody shanti : an Indian odyssey by Aaron Smith

This book is absorbing from beginning to end but very confronting, and as an older person, I found the cavalier attitude of the author and his friends to drug-taking, and the 'language' at times, very offensive.

However Aaron Smith's powers of observation are amazing and his descriptions of India so realistic, it's like a magic carpet ride.  How they survived India is a mystery, one of the group sadly didn't survive,

the story is both sad and often hilarious and extremely well written.
