I enjoyed this book, with Joyce Carol Oates as writer, it was never going to be a fast read pap horror story. I enjoyed the 'rambling asides' which set the tone of the times in which the Crosswicks Curse took hold and which added historical interest. Joyce Carol Oates is a remarkable writer whose style appeals to lovers of literary fiction, she deserves high praise for this wonderful book.
