I loved this book! It was a little predictable, but very entertaining. An historical fiction set in London in the 1800's the imagery is very powerful. Everything bad that could possibly happen to one person happens to Ellen and yet she manages to stay strong throughout the whole book. It follows her life from the time her father dies to her success in her business many years later, as a milliner and modiste. Graeme-Evans manages to tell us an immense amount about her characters purely through the clothes they wear and how they wear them. I found this detail gave the book something else, some extra element that was exciting. And im not really a fashion girl!
