"The Good Earth" is the first volume of a trilogy. The plot follows the life of a peasant farmer and his descendants in pre-Revolutionary China. This Pulitzer winning novel draws attention to a great division between the rich and poor at that time and recounts how Wang Lung overcomes extreme poverty and becomes a wealthy landowner.

The story provides a historical insight into what China was like prior to the revolution. Overall, I found this book to be interesting and thought provoking.
