Set in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960s, it gives a vivid portrait of the struggles, trials and tribulations of  a group of black maids employed by the white families.  The storyteller is a young white woman who investigates the difficulties experienced by the maids. I found it an engrossing tale, illustrating the other side of the coin.

This was a great book. Set in the conservative city of Jackson, USA, in the sixties, it shows the divide between black and white people.  One white writer is brave enough to break down barriers and look at thngs from the perspective of "the help"
