I read this book because it was shortlisted for the 2010 NSW Premier's Literary Award - Christina Stead Prize for Fiction and from the blurb sounded like a good read and it was a fantastic read!  Cate Kennedy gets my vote - I hope she wins!

I just finished this and also found it a really great book. Unfortunately beaten in the 2010 NSW Premier's Literary awards by Coetze's Summertime but was voted people's choice, which is a great achievement. I really loved how real the characters were and how well Kennedy portrayed the way in which they related to each other. Her vivid description of the challenging Tasmanian wilderness and the way it reflected Sophie and her father's relationship was particularly well done and I loved her cynical view of the Tasmanian tourist industry and the new age ideology practiced by Sophie's washed out hippie mum. Excellent novel.
