I first heard of Emma Forrest when she came out to Australia for this year's Sydney Writer's Festival and liked the sound of the memoir she came to speak about. Emma Forrest has been writing since she was a child and has since had novels published, written successful screen plays and recently published this memoir. She also suffers from rapid cycling bi-polar which means she swings erratically and quickly between depression and mania making her life as unpredictable as the Sydney weather of late. There is no doubt that Emma is a very talented writer and I found myself immediately engrossed in her tale of woe. There is also no doubt that she has some deep issues as evident by her self harming and continuous self destructive behaviour, however I couldn't help feeling that she enjoyed the attention that went with it. Unfortunately her self obsession became a little tiring toward the end and what started off as enjoyable ended with irritation. Despite that I admire a person who is brave enough to tackle a biography that is as personal as this one and find it interesting how people live with and overcome mental illness.
