Hey! I just started Kate Grenville's The Lieutenant. Although I really enjoyed her last novel, The Secret River, I'm finding this one a bit hard to get into. Maybe it's the stilted writing, its just not flowing! But the characters are quite vivid. So we'll see.

Thank you for the welcome.

Favourite authors? Ian Rankin and Robert Wilson in crime, Ian McEwan, Andrew Greig . . . as usual my mind has gone blank when put on the spot. Really I read all sorts. Membership of two book groups keeps me busy reading what I wouldn't otherwise pick up myself, often with surprising results.

Hi Lindach, Mosman's a home away from home for us (my hubbie's from Sydney). I'm always look for new and interesting reads. At the moment I'm into Australianna/historical - Just finished 'For the Term of His Natural Life' and have now moved on to 'The Fatal Shore' (recommended by a friend in Sydney). Any others you'd recommend?

Thanks I will look out for them. I really like her characters although the last few books have been a bit over the top. I like the exploration of S and M but it has been taken to new levels with her. I am waiting for her new book to read to see if she has gone back to her better work. She has an amazing imagination.
