For most people February 14 means only one thing, chocolates, roses and romantic dinners for two. But 7 years ago Valentine’s Day took on a new meaning and now a celebration of everything we love about libraries. And let’s face it what’s not to love!
This year at Mosman we are celebrating Library Lovers Day with something different. Our ‘Movies Love Libraries Film Festival’ will feature 3 classic films with libraries or librarians as the main focus. Over the years Hollywood’s passion for libraries and librarians has been seen in movies such as ‘Foul Play’ (1978), ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ (1961), ‘The Music Man’ (1962), Party Girl (1995), ‘The Name of the Rose’ (1986), and ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ (1981). And this is just to name a few! Unfortunately we can’t show the all but if you come along to the film festival you’ll get to see 3 great library inspired films. ‘Possession’ (2002) based on the book by A. S. Byatt about 2 literary sleuths who unearth a Victorian poet’s secret, ‘Desk Set’ (1957) the classic staring Katherine Hepburn as a reference librarian and ‘The Mummy’ (1999) whose main character Rachel Weisz is a librarian working for The Egyptian Museum of Antiques, will be shown over 3 days from February 14.
So if you love films and you love libraries why not come along and enjoy one or all of these enjoyable movies. No need to bring your own popcorn as we will have plenty to nibble on while you watch.
And after the film on February 14 come upstairs and grab an entry form to enter our Library Lovers Day competition. All you have to do is match the literary quotes with the books and you could walk away with the latest in Apple tablets a brand new mini iPad.
