Mau finds himself alone after a tsuami destroys his home except for an English girl Daphne was also shipwrecked during the storm. Other survivors start arriving to take refuge on the island and together they form a new Nation. I found it to be funny (but not necessarily as laugh out loud as his Discworld novels) and makes you think about what it takes and who it takes to become a commnity and has a brilliant description of how to make beer (similar to making vegemite in "The Last Continent").
