Year of Wonders: a novel of the plague by Geraldine Brooks

An interesting and well written novel. The book is based on the actual village of Eyam in England whose inhabitants voluntarily quarantined themselves for a year when the plague arrives in 1665-1666. The story reveals the best and worst in human nature when faced with tragedy. If you like historical fiction you may like this book.

This story flows easily along even though there are many unexpected twists. The private lives of the villagers during this era is wonderfully described.  The use of many old English words seem natural and add colour to the story.
