What is Wikipedia? How does it work?
Liam Wyatt of Wikimedia Australia will introduce us to “free-culture”, its relationship to copyright and the role of Wikipedia in the information commons.
This is a practical session for both readers and potential editors.
Liam will give us a guided tour of the major elements of Wikipedia that are useful to readers (e.g. discussion pages, editing guides and finding “featured quality” content) before getting into the basics of editing Wikipedia pages.
We will find articles relevant to Mosman and the region (Liam recently curated this great article on Artists’ Camps) and learn how we can get involved with “wikiprojects” (most notably wikiproject-Australia and wikiproject-Sydney).
This will be a fun session that will challenge and inspire!
(If you have a laptop, bring it along.)
Free but please RSVP online.
Presented as part of the Social Media Mob – Mosman. Questions? Email webteam@mosman.nsw.gov.au.
