John Hughes is a Sydney-based Australian writer and teacher. His first book of autobiographical essays The Idea of Home was voted the National Year of Reading ‘Our Story’ winner for 2012.
The Remnants is his first novel, and has been described as ‘the most exciting Australian novel in recent memory’. On the surface ‘The Remnants’ is a simple familiar story. A father’s death sends his adult son in search of answers about their relationship. In translating the father’s manuscript and journals from Russian to English, questions arise.
The novel unfolds mysteriously, pulling the reader on a dizzying ride through the nature of storytelling and the perplexity of language.
