A beautifully written novel about a young Irish American priest from Boston who is suffering from shell shock after WW1 and his journey up the Shannon River in 1922 which leads to his recovery.What he discovers on his journey will change his life forever. The novel evokes the civil war period in Ireland in the aftermath of the 1921 Treaty which set up the Irish Free State with former friends and colleagues fighting and killing each other.
