Books that make you ‘think’!
The National Year of Reading 2012 has dedicated the month of March to the reading theme ‘think’, which immediately makes me think of books that are a little bit challenging in the intellectual sense. But any book can make you ‘think’. It doesn’t always have to be authors like Dostoyevsky or Proust that cause the brain cells to stir. In fact some of the most thought provoking books I have read have been easily accessible authors such as Jodi Picoult.
Of course ‘think’ means different things to different people depending on what interests you. A book about the double helix may be deeply fascinating to a scientist but would bore me silly. And that’s the beauty of reading. We search out what makes us think, or not think, as the case may be, and there is plenty for all (sadly too much for one lifetime). I love a book that makes me think, so on that note here’s a list of my favourites in no order and by no means exhaustive. Whether you agree or not is open to debate…but why not give them a go and see what you ‘think’!
And don’t forget that you can join the love2read twitter reading group and tweet about books that make you ‘think’ during March. Just use the #NYR12 to share your thoughts.
