Acclaimed American author John Updike passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the age of 76. John Updike won many awards for his works including Pulitzer Prizes for his novels Rabbit is Rich (1991) and Rabbit at Rest (1982). In 2008 he was awarded the Literary Review Lifetime Achievement Award for Bad Sex in Fiction for his fourth consecutive nominationThe Widows of Eastwick a sequel to the The Witches of Eastwick published in 1984 and made into a film in 1987 directed by George Miller and starred Cher, Susan Sarandon, Jack Nicholson and Michele Pfeiffer.
