"Book lovers never go to bed alone"
This is a great initiative designed to counter the gender bias in reviewing and social media newsfeeds. It actively promotes the reading and reviewing of a wide range of contemporary Australian women's writing throughout 2012, the National Year of Reading.
Anyone can join in the challenge, by reading and reviewing a variety of writing by Australian women, posting it to a blog (like this one!) and linking back to the challenge website. The instructions are all there, and it sounds quite straightforward.
I'm sure I'll think of more, but I'm starting my list off with a few of my favourite contemporary Australian women writers:
Anita Heiss
Dianne Blacklock
Liane Moriarty
Belinda Alexandra
Monica McInerney
Geraldine Brooks
Nikki Gemmell
Jessica Rudd
Melina Marchetta
Got any more suggestions?
Yes a great idea. I like Monica McInerney and Liane Moriarty as well. I would also add Kate Grenville,Wendy Harmer, Anna Fulder, Kerry Greenwood, Keri Arthur , Anita Heiss and Marion Halligan as suggested Aussie women authors to have a look at. These authors range across genres including literary fiction , paranormal romance, chic lit and crime.
I am just about to start my first book in the challenge which is The Good Daughter by Honey Brown, recommended by someone else going the challenge. Love Australian fiction and generally read heaps of women anyway but this is a great way to discover more talented Aussie female writers! Hopefully lots of Mosman Readers will be in on the challenge!
Here are some more suggestions (more general fiction):
Helen Garner
Debra Adelaide
Cory Taylor
M J Hyland
Cate Kennedy
Kate Morton
Gillian Mears
Kate Morton! Of course!
