Winner of the first Stella Prize Announced

Congratulations to Carrie Tiffany winner of the Stella Prize, a new literary award for Australian female authors, for her book "Mateship with Birds"

The Stella Prize is a major new literary award celebrating Australian women’s writing. It is named after one of Australia’s iconic female authors, Stella Maria ‘Miles’ Franklin, and celebrates women’s contribution to Australian literature. The Stella Prize rewards one writer with a significant monetary prize of $50,000.

The title of Carrie Tiffany’s Mateship with Birds is especially appropriate as Tiffany called all her fellow nominees up to the stage when collecting the award last night in Melbourne, Tiffany and announced she would share $10,000 of the $50,000 prize money with the other shortlisted authors.
