Mosman Library’s BIG DAY IN is a BIG Success!

Library and Information Week 2011 couldn’t have been celebrated in a better way at Mosman Library’s Big Day In. Fun was had by all, as our patron’s (and staff!) enjoyed free barista made coffee, gorgeously decorated mini cupcakes, free giveaways such as journals and bookmarks, behind the scenes library tours and the opportunity to purchase books from our book sale for as little as $1.10. And the children didn’t miss out either, with entertainment from a performer, free drinks and Tim Tams, balloons and lucky dip prizes for all.

 

One of the highlights of the day was the announcement of the winner of the iPad, the prize for successful completion of our online database quiz. The winner was over the moon to win an iPad, especially in light of an upcoming overseas holiday! At the end of the day we drew lucky door prizes and 3 fortunate borrowers walked away with a sumptuous hamper full of goodies.

 

Overall the day was a wonderful opportunity to spoil our patrons in celebration of Library and Information Week. Seeing people crowded around chatting with coffees and books in hand created a warming and friendly atmosphere and served as a reminder of the importance of our local libraries as community hubs for learning and the sharing of information. People still need to connect and it is reassuring to know that libraries can provide the type of environment that not only provides information in all its formats but brings people together as well. It's just a shame we can't have coffee and cupcakes in the library every day!!!
